The Year 5 Team

We want to congratulate our Year 5 students on their ‘Land down under’ performance for the end of year ceremony. Thank you for your effort and hard work. Thank you, parents and guardians, for your ongoing support and effort.

What’s going on in Integrated Studies?

Students learnt about biological science involving living things for the first five weeks. Then we moved onto chemical sciences with our focus primarily being on states of matter. Students created examples of plant and animal cell models which involved defining each part of the cell. Students also grew a variety of seeds in the classroom and watched them grow over time.

Students will be preparing for their very own science show. They have been practicing and creating their own experiments which they will present to other year levels. Should be crazy and exciting!

English

This term students have been working on the text type, explanation. Students were able to explain how and why some things happen. Students wrote their assessments on how a seed grows. We have been reading our novel, The Witches by Roald Dahl and working closely on cause and effect in reading.

Reminders:

• Please ensure that your children are completing their homework and nightly reading on a regular basis.
• Please ensure students are in full school uniform to avoid consequences on SEQTA.
• Students need to be organised and ensure they are prepared for each lesson.
• Don’t be late to class!
• Eat healthier lunches, avoid sugary foods!
• Sirius College does not tolerate bullying, so be sure to report any incidents to a teacher and follow procedure and rules.
